Warm water ablution systems are warm, tepid or mixed water systems that are used for creating safe showering water. Typically, to ensure a safe temperature for showering in hospitals, nursing homes, aged hostels, retirement villages and other such places, they provide water at 45°C at the hot or heated water outlet or usage point.
However, 43-5°C water is perfect temperature for Legionnaire's disease (Legionella pneumophila) to grow. For example, in cold water the bacteria cannot reproduce but as the water gets warmer, it can quickly grow to dangerous levels of more than 1000 per ml. Health authorities recommend less than 10 per ml as being achievable and safe.
